Grounded in Growth.
Welcome. I’m glad you’re here.
This post will serve as a brief overview of the origins of this therapy group. Future posts will highlight our perspectives, theory’s, counseling framework and relevant topics as they are requested or show themselves naturally. Most of these blog posts will written by me (Steve Wheeler), unless otherwise specified.
Grounded Therapy Network LLC, has been in the works for almost a decade and I am so excited to open our virtual doors! I am excited to start serving my community; grounded in counseling theory, social justice advocacy, and collaboration with other counselors with different perspectives and experiences than myself. My goal with this counseling group is based on three concepts:
1. What is best for the client?
2. What is best for the therapist?
3. What is best for the community?
Intrigued? Keep reading.
What is best for the Client?
This question is always at the forefront of our mind throughout the development of our practice and throughout treatment. What is best for you, may be different than what is best for another client or even contradict your therapists personal beliefs. The focus of effective counseling is to observe and support the clients worldview and support you within your own worldview. If I tell you what I think you should do, I am not serving your best interest, I would be serving my own best interest.
Why are counselors so vague/don’t help answer the question, “what should I do”?
My answer to this question; “because I can’t. You’re paying me to be your therapist, not your friend. My role as your therapist is to create a space where you are able to be vulnerable and honest with yourself, through this experience, we can work together in finding what solutions best serve you.”
Our counselors participate in monthly consultation with peers to reflect our own biases to ensure we are not unintentionally being influenced by our personal beliefs during your therapy process. This skill is something that requires diligence and ongoing support throughout a counselors career.
Who knows what is best for the Client?
I believe each individual person has their own path/answers to their life’s journey. It is my job to help you learn how to listen to your body, notice your responses and observe what brings you true joy. My short answer to the aforementioned question: “You do. we just need to figure out how to find the answer”
How do we find that answer?
Therapy?
Hopefully. I mean, that’s certainly why I’m here. But I also don’t want to waste your time or money. I plan to work with you on figuring out what path will best help you find your answers. There are certainly research based methods of therapy our therapists will use when working with you. A variety of strategies and theories which can help you navigate life and find your center/inner voice/purpose etc. I will explore more about how we answer this question in future posts.
This is why the question which informs our treatment is: “what is best for the client?”
What is best for the Therapist?
Community Support
My goal is to build a group network of therapists, across various mental health provider disciplines, to allow for collaboration, community, networking and a comfortable working environment. We are grounded in our respect for each other and our differences in practice. Building a company which is financially transparent, fiscally responsible and supportive of its team members. Our strong sense of community as therapists, allows us to be more effective in the counseling process for our clients.
Available Resources
Grounded Therapy Network LLC will be paying for our Electronic Medical Record via Therapynotes.com. We will be providing Liability Insurance for each licensed therapist. We will be offering LLPC counseling supervision as part of our contract services, allowing our LLPC therapists to ethically work in private practice (with supervision).
Peace of Mind
Grounded Therapy Network will be involved in the community, establishing relationships with other healthcare providers. Therapists will be able to spend their time focusing on their own therapy niche and expanding on their skillset. GTN will work with you and additional marketing plans for connecting you with your ideal client.
We will also support you if you decide to break off into your own practice.
We are all in this together. Consider meeting with us and joining our team.
What is best for the Community?
Community education is a major component of Grounded Therapy Network. I believe our role in providing preventative, informational and engaging presentations/trainings to our community is part of the foundation of an effective organization. I intend to serve the community in which our therapist reside, in any way we can.
As of now, I am a certified trainer for Youth Mental Health First Aid and QPR Suicide Prevention Trainings and am able to develop a mental health training/presentation specific to your interest/needs. Let me know if you would like to connect!
I am excited to see what how this pillar of Grounded Therapy Network expands.
Thank you for reading.
One aspect of my life which brings me back to my center, is to challenge myself and grow through education, travel, counseling, vulnerability, relationships and failure. Lets see if we can make it happen and change the world in the process.
Be well enough,
Steve Wheeler
